The Hezner Corporation was commissioned by Greene Bros’ Holdings, Inc. to restore/renovate a 1896 vintage leaf tobacco warehouse in Janesville, WI. In the late 1800’s and early 1900’s South Central Wisconsin supported the growth of a significant amount of filler tobacco, and storage buildings of this type were constructed to store and dry the harvested and baled tobacco.
When we began the project we found that the structure was very strong vertically but weak laterally and our work included stablizing and reinforcincing primary structural componants. Existing masonry perimeter walls and stone rubble foundations were repaired and, where needed, reinforced and tied back to the structure of the building. To preserve the original character of the building, original heavy timber columns, wood plank interior walls, and roof and floor structure has remained exposed.
